So you’ve gotten to the point in your life journey where you are wondering what’s next? It feels like it is time to make some changes in where you live but you can’t quite put your finger on the reason why or you are looking for some direction to start the conversation about downsizing.
There are SO MANY reasons why people choose to downsize. They can sometimes creep up on us and until the conversation is had, we may not even realize it is time to downsize! Let’s take a look at 5 of these signs…
This is one of the most common reason people downsize. As you come up on retirement, you may be considering ways on how to lower costs and stretch your retirement savings. A smaller home can do this.
Overwhelmed With Maintenance:
Whether you are a first time home buyer or at retirement, you want to keep your home clean, up to date, and MOST importantly, safe. As we age some of the maintenance tasks we used to do with ease can become a huge chore and unsafe. Some of these may be repairing shingles on the roof, standard yard work like mowing the lawn or trimming shrubs. Whether you do the work yourself or pay for it to be done by someone else, this is a sign it may be time to go smaller.
If you notice that it has been a while since you have gone into the guest bedroom, office, or any other room in your home, it may be a sign to go smaller. The room may be unused but you are still paying property tax, heat, and electric bills on them while they collect dust.
Want To See More Family:
It is very common for children to move away from home and start their own lives in a different city further away from their parents due to careers. Are you wishing you could spend more time with your children and grandchildren rather than only a few times a year? Downsizing is a fix that may be able to allow you to be more present in the moments that matter most, time with our family.
You Are Often Away From Home:
Following in the footsteps of the previously mentioned sign; if you are noticing you are vacationing, traveling, or sending more time away from your home than you are in it, downsizing may be a great option to save on costs while you are away.
Did any of these apply to you? If so, it may be time to start looking into buying a smaller, easier to maintain, and better located home. Interested in reading more to continue the conversation? Take a look at THIS article for more reading!
